James Edward Harold Forty was born on 8 July 1891, son of James Edwin Forty, Second Master at the Hull and East Riding College. Educated at Worcester College, Oxford, he was commissioned Captain in the 6th Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment in October 1914. Having served in Gallipoli from 14 July 1915 and lattery in France and Belgium, he served as CO of the 14th (Severn Valley Pioneers) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment from 8 April 1918-April 1919. Having taken up work with the BBC, he was latterly awarded an M.B.E and died on 25 May 1965, his address noted as 11 Charing Cross Road; sold together with his Commissioning Document, dated 21 August 1914, in its original OHMS envelope and in cloth envelope, this labelled 'Major Forty 6.E.York.R.' and copied research.
