Norman Mitchell lived on Guildford Park Road, Guildford and served with the 1st/5th Battalion during the Great War. He was first stationed in India, being admitted to hospital at Lucknow for dysentry in August 1915. Serving Mesopotamia from 10 December 1915 and was discharged in September 1916. Having suffered a gunshot wound on 24 April 1916, he was found to have a serious heart condition whilst in hospital in Basra and was judged to have suffered a 25% disability on account of the strain suffered whilst in service; sold together with a photograph of recipient in later life as a Special Constable and with a relative, besides copied service record.
