Albert Baker was born on 13 March 1915 and enlisted in the Royal Sussex Regiment on 3 May 1936, seeing active service in Palestine. Having been promoted Lance Corporal, Baker was serving with the 1st Battalion as part of the 4th Indian Division in Africa during the Second World War. Taken a prisoner of war on 1 February 1942 at Benghazi, Baker was subjected to work in the coal mine at Sosnowitz fron 6 June 1944-20 January 1945. It was whilst working the mines, he suffered bronchitis and heart 'troubles' from 29 December 1944. He was transferred to Stalag 344 from 20 January, returning to live at Latimer Road, Eastbourne after the end of the War; sold with copied M.I.9 Ex-Prisoners of War questionnaire.
