General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine (2657230. Gdsmn. R. R. Brewis. C. Gds.), good very fine

Robert Rawling Brewis was born on 6 July 1917 at Morpeth, the son of Samuel Brewis and Jane Rawling, of Newbiggin-by-Sea, Morpeth, Northumberland. A plasterer by trade, he attested at Newcastle for the 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards on 12 December 1935 and served in Alexandria, attached to the 5th Regimental Signalling Company. Transferred to Palestine on 14 October 1938, he was promoted Lance Corporal on 8 January 1940 and Corporal on 30 December 1941. A short while later he was posted as missing in the Western Desert, later confirmed as killed in action on 25 January 1942. Aged 24 years, Brewis is commemorated upon the Alamein Memorial; sold with copied service record.
