British War Medal 1914-20 (Lt. E. G. Barter.), good very fine

Elder Gaul Barter was born on 9 January 1892 and educated at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge and University College London. Entering the Indian Civil Service, he was serving as an Assistant Collector and Magistrate in December 1916. Taking on military duty, he was commissioned and served with 'B' Company, 1st Battalion, Sappers and Miners. Appointed a Joint Magistrate in 1922 and District Judge, Madras in 1928, he appeared on the 1935 Jubilee Medal Roll as a Judge in Guntur District. Returned to England, he published Relativity and Reality in 1953 and died at Christchurch, Hampshire in 1962.
