(x) Queen's Sudan 1896-98 (4674. Drmr. J. Campbell. 1/Sea Hrs.), nearly very fine

James Lappin Campbell was born in 1875 at Reigate, Surrey, the son of James Campbell and brother of Colin Campbell of 58 Northbrook Avenue, Liverpool. A clerk by trade, he attested for the Seaforth Highlanders at Liverpool on 19 September 1893, and witnessed service with the 1st Battalion in the Sudan, during the Occupation of Crete in 1897 and Nile Expedition of 1898. Posted home to England from Egypt on 27 October 1902, he was discharged after 12 years' service on 18 September 1905. He was later admitted to the Royal Hospital, Chelsea; sold with copied service record confirming further entitlement to Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896-1908, with 2 clasps.
