(x) King's South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (3242 Pte. W. Duckworth. Manch: Regt.), very fine

William Duckworth was born around 1873 at Manchester and attested at Ashton-under-Lyne for the Manchester Regiment on 2 June 1891. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he was sentenced to 84 days' imprisonment with hard labour for theft on 22 January 1897. Serving in India from 3 September 1894-20 November 1898 and South Africa from 16 March 1900-14 November 1901, Duckworth was discharged at the termination of his first period of engagement on 1 June 1903; sold with copied service record.
