1896 (4 June) opened-out Hall & Holtz envelope registered to Nanking bearing a fine strike of the "PAID" handstamp in red. Shanghai Boxed registered handstamp with printed number and a faint strike of Shanghai registered squared circle datestamp on the reverse along with Nanking Local Post bilingual dated oval (27.6) in purple. Redirected back to Shanghai with another Nanking Local Post bilingual dated oval (8.7) on the reverse, the address side with boxed "Registered/No. .../nanking" handstamp in purple with ink number "564" with a further, inadequate strike alongside, Shanghai Boxed registered handstamp with printed number and Shanghai registered squared circle datestamp (26.6).


A highly desirable and much travelled cover bearing this unique combination of postmarks. Photo
