Covers
Internal Mail
1894 (Dec.) a spectacular cover from the British Consulate in Ichang, registered to Shanghai bearing 2ca. (2) and 3ca. tied by the Ichang seal and with large "R" in double circle struck in red, the reverse with Hankow Local Post c.d.s. (22 Dec.) and indistinct Shanghai arrival .c.d.s. with the postman's delivery characters in pencil; some creasing which barely detracts from this highly important cover. Pays 2ca. postage plus 5ca. registration.
This is a very early cover and is the only recorded with the stamps cancelled by the Ichang seal as well as the only example of this circular registration mark which was replaced by the standard boxed handstamp. Photo
