Ernest Frederick William Wren was born on 16 May 1895 at Catford, London. He served at Barrow and R.N.A.S. Howden - an airship station located southeast of York which was used to cover the eastern ports against U-Boat attack - before transferring to the Royal Air Force on 31 March 1918.
