British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut. W. W. Tebbutt. R.A.F.), extremely fine

William Wintersgill Tebbutt was born on 3 July 1899 and resided at 'The Chestnuts', Haddenham, Isle of Ely. Educated at Friend's School, Saffron Walden, Essex - A Quaker Independent School - Tebbutt was Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 14 November 1917 and subsequently trained to become a Pilot at South Farnborough, Winchester and Oxford. Appointed Flying Officer in April 1918, he was posted to No. 50 Squadron, R.A.F., but his fledgling career was cut short by illness and admittance to Hilsea Military Hospital. Recovered, he was posted to the B.E.F. on 26 October 1918, but was transferred to the unemployed list a year later.
