British Post Office
1895 (6 Mar.) envelope registered to America bearing, on the reverse, ½c. pair, 1c., 2c. pair, 5c. and 10c. tied by double-circle c.d.s. in black, and with San Francisco registered datestamp (2.4); the address side with Hong Kong 1891 20c. on 30c. grey-green and pair of 5c pale blue tied by Shanghai c.d.s. (8.3) with the associated large "R" in circle, Yokohama (16.3) and faint New Orleans registered datestamp. There is some soiling, mostly confined to the address side
A very unusual cover, the 21c. local post franking paying domestic postage and the international registration. Mail sent via Japan during the Sino-Japanese War (14 Aug. 1894 to 17 Aug. 1895) is very scarce, this is believed to be the only such registered cover. Photo
