The Bisects
1861 entire from Singapore to Boston USA, marked "Via Marseilles", bearing 1856 1a. brown and 4a. black strip of three with, on reverse, another 4a. (damaged) and 1860 8p. purple bisected diagonally, all clearly tied by "B/172" obliterator, showing manuscript "2/-" in red ink, London Paid transit c.d.s. (27.1.62), "16/cents" accountancy h.s. (deleted), "boston br. pkt/5" arrival d.s. (15.2) and, on reverse, light "singapore/p.o." double-ring d.s.; the entire with two strikes of the Seybold handstamp in violet, one on the face panel. An extremely rare franking being one of four recorded 8p. bisect covers of which only two are in private hands. B.P.A. Certificate (2000). Photo
