"Malta Post Office"
1839 (5 Oct.) entire letter to the Austrian Consul at Livorno, showing very fine strike of "Malta Post Office" h.s. (MPO-1a) with unframed oval "i.r. consolato/d'austria/in/malta" h.s. in black alongside, both clear of horizontal filing crease and, on reverse, fine wafer seal and manuscript "Col Vapori Postale". The letter concerns Austrian affairs in Constantinople and Levant, just prior to the war between the allies, Austria, Great Britain and Turkey, who drove the Egyptians out of Syria and the Holy Land.
