His response has been delayed by "the mass of correspondence in connection with the Promenade Concert season". Signed "Henry J. Wood". Signed "Jessie Wood". A charming pair. Photo
Sir Henry Wood (1809-1945) was a British conductor most noted for his founding of the ever popular Promenade Concerts. Since his death the concerts have been officially renamed the "Henry Wood Promenade Concerts", though they are still referred to as the 'Proms'.
After an unsuccessful marriage that left Wood unable to remarry his love Lady Jessie Linton whom he had once tutored, Lady Jessie Linton changed her name by Deed Poll to Lady Jessie Wood and they were considered married.
