Japanese Post Office: 1897 (13 Jan.) (c.) envelope to Iowa bearing 1c. cancelled by a light strike of circular Nanking Local Post postmark in purple, used with Japan War With China 5s. blue tied by "shanghai/i.j.p.o." c.d.s. (16.1) and, on the reverse, a very faint strike of Nanking Local Post dated oval, Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (14.1) in black, Yokohama (21.1), San Francisco (14.2) and the arrival c.d.s. (17.2). Late use of these local post stamps (thought to be the latest international cover from Nanking) and a rare combination. Photo


1897年1月13日南京寄美國愛荷華州封, 貼壹分票, 銷淡紫色南京書信館戳, 信經上海時, 由上海日本客郵局補貼日本5錢票, 並鎮1月16目I.J.P.O.戳; 封背蓋有十分模糊的紫色南京書信館橢圓形日戳, 1月14日上海工部日戳, 1月21日橫濱及2月14日三藩市的中轉戳及2月17日愛荷華州到達日戳; 存世的南京書信館寄往外國的混貼封, 目前發現約應少於五件, 本封亦為寄外國郵件的最晚使用例.
