Shanghai: 1894 (8 Mar.) opened-out envelope registered to Peking bearing 3ca. mauve clean cut perf.11½ block of four cancelled by Shanghai seal type II in black and showing a superb strike of the type I Shanghai "R" in vertical oval struck in red, the reverse with Customs Shanghai and Customs Peking (17.3), the envelope has been crossed with blue crayon. A fine and appealing cover and is the earliest recorded date of use of this registration handstamp. Photo
