(x) Edward the Elder (899-924), Penny, 1.58g, Portrait type, Tila, + eadweard rex, laureate and draped bust left, rev. tilam oneta in two lines, small cross between two groups of three pellets above, three small crosses between, and a group of three pellets below (N.651; S.1084), good very fine, lustrous and with a light old tone typical of the Vatican hoard

Three Type III Portrait Pennies of Tila are listed by O'Donovan in his account of the Vatican Hoard, BNJ xxxiii (1964). No. 449 is described as chipped. No. 451 has a retrograde obverse and is now in the Ashmoleon Museum (Lockett lot 533). This leaves no. 450, for which no location is given, and the weight is stated to be 24.3 grains, which matches this coin.
