1855 (30 Apr.) entire letter from Mount Franklyn, Spring Creek to England, rated "1/-" in red and "1/2", bearing "registered" 1/- rose and blue (fault at top due to filing crease) tied by Barred Oval "82", showing "Crown/registered" h.s. in red and, on reverse, "hepburn/victoria", London (6.8) and arrival datestamps; some light filing creases. A rare franking being one of six known with the "Registered" stamp alone. RPSV Certificate (2008). Photo

Note: Between November 1854 and February 1857, there were no contract mails with the Australian colonies as all steamships had been withdrawn due to the Crimean War, so mail was carried by contracted Liverpool clippers, or private ship.
