1856 (20 Feb.) entire letter from Avoca to Locarno, bearing "registered" 1/- Die II and Woodblock 6d., both tied by Barred Numeral "14", showing handstruck "d6", framed "colonies/art - 18" in red and manuscript "95" (decimes) and, on reverse, despatch, Melbourne, Australian Packet Liverpool (13.5), London, Basel and arrival datestamps; the odd minor age spot. Note: This cover is grossly understamped at 1/6d. instead of the minimum of 3/10d. for a ¼oz. registered letter to Switzerland, and therefore treated as unpaid - see "Colonies Art. 18" for unpaid or underpaid mail under the provisions of the Anglo-French treaty of December 1855 amending the original treaty of 1843.
