Bank Cheques
1830's to 1880's a worldwide collection of specimen and other blank cheques from numerous different banks, mostly from the 1860's and 1870's. There is a wonderful variety of English banks illustrated by many small and larger provincial banks, many listing their London Agents, London banks include Barclay, Bevan, Tritton & Co. plus several others based in Lombard Street, a couple bear illustrations including Messrs. Gunner & Co of Bishops Waltham, The National Bank, Devon & Cornwall Banking Company and The Old Bank, Ross; printers' Specimen marks from Charles, Skipper & East and Nissen & Parker, other printers are also noted including E. Fisher of Lombard Street; a few notes bear cheque numbers and 1d. revenue stamp including the Bank of England endorsed "Not for use".

Other countries include the Eastern Banking Company in Alexandria, several from New Zealand with some bearing illustrations, Singapore, South Africa, India including provincial banks, France, Barbados, Mauritius, Canadian Colonies and U.S.A. with most examples from a variety of banks in San Francisco plus some others including illustrated Bishop & Co, Honolulu. Many of the notes have been previously stuck into an album and those printed with fugitive inks show the ink suffused through to the reverse. A fabulous collection which would be ideal for the student of early banks. (208). Photo
