1916 (12 January) typed letter from the War Office to Field-Marshal Sir C.H. Brownlow sending the text of the congratulations from the Duke of Connaught to the Emperor of Russia, who had recently been appointed Field-Marshal. "In the name of the Field-Marshals of the British Army I tender to your Imperial Majesty our warmest congratulations on your appointment. We are proud to welcome you amongst our number the Head of the gallant Russian Army our comrades in this great war". Signed "Kitchener". With the original envelope bearing Kitchener's handstamped signature. There is a further typed letter giving a copy of the reply, signed by his private secretary. Photo
