Charles Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke
1840 (4 February) A.L.S. from Southampton to his wife at Wimpole Hall in Arrington, the envelope is "Prepaid" and bearing a fine strike of "Hamble/Penny Post", manuscript "1" in red and Paid c.d.s., signed "Hardwicke" in lower corner. The letter starts, "My Dear Suzy ..." and continues about the Precedence question was being discussed in the House of Lords (this was six days before the marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert), he was writing in the House of Lords and mentioned that he had just seen the Duke of Wellington and is signed off, "Your devoted Charles".
