1715 (15 September) entire letter from Samuel Rolle in Heanton, "I herewith send you a list of Parishes of Your Company as near together as I can think for the conveniencey of you and them. If think any other better may change when you please. I desire now the Parishes are assessed you'll issue out your warrants for the ... Constables of the Parishes belonging to your Company to warne forth able men to be listed for the Service, when and where your think most Convenient and when done give me an account for it" and is signed "Sell Rolle". There is a postscript, "Enquire of the Constable what arms they have and whether they will buy themselves for 30s. thereabouts the whole equipment of a Soldier with arms ". The letter was carried privately. Also an example of the Evening Post for 1714 (16 October) which was sent through the post to Reading
Samuel Rolle (1669-1735) of Hudscott, Chittlehampton, Devon, was MP for Barnstaple between 1705 and 1708. He was a member of a cadet branch of the influential Rolle family of Stevenstone. He was a colonel in the militia.
