Receipts of Exchange
1680-1759 printed receipts made out to one of the Four Tellers of His Majestys Receipt of Exchequer, paying interest on loans made to the government showing the reason for which the loan was required and the interest rate. The receipts include "for granting a Supply to his Majefty of 206462l. 17s. 3d. for paying off and disbanding the Forces raifed fince the 29th of September 1677" (3), "Subfidie ... payable upon Merchandizes Exported and Imported" signed Edward Northey (Attorney General for England and Wales), "... towards carrying on a Vigorous War againft France", 1743 receipt for £20,000 "being for the Ufe and Service of the Navy and Victualling thereof." and signed by Arthur Onslow, another signed by Sir Robert Williamson Baronet. Most are for tonnage and beer duty fees. Condition is variable. (18)
