William Cecil, Lord Burghley
1585 (4 December) Treasury Warrant on laid paper signed "W Burghley" as Lord Treasurer and Sir Walter Mildmay as Chancellor of the Exchequer, directing Robert Petre, the Clerk of the Receipt, to pay £20 to Nowell Sotherton, the Clerk of Estreats "for extreating forth all the fynes forfeyted unto hir Maiestie upon the Recusauntes in the xxvith yere of hir highness reigne; and also for writing of doble lettres to the shereffes for the more spedy collecting of the same fynes". William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley (1520 – 1598) was an English statesman, the chief advisor of Queen Elizabeth I for most of her reign, twice Secretary of State (1550–53 and 1558–72) and Lord High Treasurer from 1572.
Sir Walter Mildmay (1523 (c.) – 1589) was an English statesman who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer of England under Queen Elizabeth I, and was founder of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
