The Order of the Bear Slayer was the first and highest Latvian award upon its institution in 1919 at the instruction of the Commander of the Army following the Latvian War of Independence.

Ceasing to exist in 1928, this Class of the Order in silver-gilt as awarded to Foreigners was conferred only 271 times.
