Away from the battlefield, Griffiths's appears to have gained a name for himself as a rugby forward. On St David's Day 1952, the 1st Battalion played a series of Inter-Company six-a-side rugger matches: in the last game 'Pte. Griffiths, the Llanelly Rugby League Forward, jumped on the ball and split it open which brought the game to a swift conclusion.'
