Pair: Private J. Davies, 24th (Pembroke and Glamorgan) Battalion, The Welch Regiment, late 1/1st Pembrokeshire Yeomanry, who was killed in action in the Third Battle of Gaza in November 1917

John Davies was born at Allywails, Carmarthenshire and enlisted in the 1/1st Pembrokeshire Yeomanry at Carmarthen in June 1915.
His unit was subsequently reformed as the 24th Battalion (Pembroke and Glamorgan Yeomanry) Battalion, The Welch Regiment, and it was in this capacity that he was killed in action during the advance on Tell Esh Sheria in the Third Battle of Gaza on 6 November 1917.
A local newspaper obituary states that Davies was an ex-employee of Mr. G. Barrett Evans, J.P., of Llanstephan and that 'he was greatly respected throughout the neighbourhood'. He left a widow and two children, then living at Glyn Cottage, Brook, Llanstephan. He was buried in Beersheba War Cemetery, Palestine; sold with copied research, including local newspaper obituary.
