Three: Corporal P. M. Ovenstone, 14th (Fife and Forfar Yeomanry) Battalion, Black Watch, who was killed in action in the Third Battle of Gaza in November 1917

Peter Meldrum Ovenstone was born in Dundee, the son of Philip and Julia Ovenstone, and enlisted in the 1/1st Fife and Forfar Yeomanry at Kirkcaldy. Embarked for the Balkans in August 1915, he was landed at Suvla, Gallipoli in the following month, where he would have seen action in the 2nd Mounted Division.
His unit was subsequently reformed as the 14th Battalion (Fife and Forfar Yeomanry) Battalion, Black Watch, and it was in this capacity that he was killed in action during the advance on Tell Esh Sheria in the Third Battle of Gaza on 6 November 1917. Aged 22, Ovenstone was buried in Beersheba War Cemetery, Palestine; sold with copied research and several photographs of his grave.
