The recipient is believed to have served in H.M.S. Newcastle during the Malaya operations; accompanying notes refer.

Ordered to Singapore in August 1954, the Newcastle participated in several notable operations, including the bombardment of terrorist positions at Kuala Lumpur in January 1955 and in South-East Johore in May 1955 and December 1957.
