Albert Mayoh was born in Bolton, Lancashire in March 1895. Mayoh enlisted in the Royal Marines at Liverpool in January 1915 and served three tours of duty in France and Flanders, his service record noting that he was wounded - 'shock' - on 1 January 1916, in addition to being admitted to 150 R.N. Field Ambulance in January 1918, from whence he was evacuated home. He was demobilised in July 1919; sold with copied service record and newspaper report.
