Clement Cornwall Webb, who was born in Exeter, served in the 8th (Derbyshire) Company, 4th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War (Queen's Medal & 3 clasps).

Commissioned Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, in September 1915, he was advanced to Captain in April 1916 and later transferred to the Royal Flying Corps as an Adjutant.
