India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Bhootan (3808 W. Ward, H.Ms 55th Regt.), old replacement riband rod, good very fine

William Ward was born at Datchet, near Windsor and enlisted in the 55th Regiment in December 1854, aged 24 years. His subsequent service with the Colours was, in some respects, an unhappy one, his discharge papers concluding that his conduct - on account of numerous charges for being absent from duty - was 'bad.' The same source states that he had 'earned the Crimean Medal and one clasp, also the Turkish Medal, and still has them in his possession'; so, too, his subsequent service in India. Ward was discharged at Netley Hospital in May 1866; sold with copied discharge papers.
