(x) India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Persia (J. Gee, 64th Foot), suspension tightened but slack, very fine

The recipient died at Cawnpore on 22 November 1857, where his name is included on a regimental commemorative headstone at All Souls Church:

'Sacred to the Memory of Sergeant J. Kelly, H. Donaughey, Corporal J. Lankham, W. Smith, Private J. Gee of the Band, H.M. 64th Regiment, who Died at Cawnpore Between the Months of September and November 1857, Deeply Regretted by Their Comrades Who Have Erected This Stone. Also of B. Fitzpatrick & D. Muir, Who Fell in the Action at Cawnpore on 28th November 1857.'

In that action at Cawnpore, 15-year-old Drummer Thomas Flinn of the 64th Foot won the V.C. for his gallantry in charging the enemy's guns: although wounded he engaged in a hand-to-hand encounter with two of the rebel artillerymen.

Gee was entitled to the Indian Mutiny Medal without clasp; sold with copied research.
