Lord Burghley
1592 (26 February) autographed folio document signed "W Burghley" whilst he was Secretary of State. This warrant is for payment to Norwell Sothelm (?). There is a second signature underneath and, at the foot of the page, a further endorsement with signature. The page has been torn with paper repair, some tone spots and ageing of the paper. Photo
William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley (1520 – 1598) was the chief advisor of Queen Elizabeth I for most of her reign, twice Secretary of State (1550–1553 and 1558–1572) and Lord High Treasurer from 1572.
