Crowned Circle Paid: 1852 (15 Mar.) blue folio entire letter to Madeira "per Mail" rated at "1/-" and faint "160", showing a light readable strike of "paid/at/grenada" in red with London transit (5.4) alongside, the reverse with a fine strike of open circle despatch c.d.s. with a further London transit alongside; light horizontal filing fold. The letter confirms safe receipt of eight pipes of Madeira wine. This is the earliest recorded date of use of the Crowned circle handstamp. Photo
