An exceptionally rare late 18th. Century 16-bore flintlock belt pistol for the General Post Office by Henry Nock, London. (Nock took livery in 1795, was elected Master of the Gunsmiths Company in 1892, and was appointed gunsmith-in-ordinary to King George III in 1789).
With brass 257mm. barrel signed at the breech, plain tang, signed border, engraved flat bevelled lock, ring neck cock, figured full stock, regulation brass mounts, including pommel. Engraved "general post office" at the back, iron belt hook and original brass tipped ramrod. Tower private proof marks and maker's mark; very fine. Photo

Examples of Nock's work are preserved in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle. Frederick Wilkinson, in 'Those Entrusted with Arms', records no examples in the Royal Armouries collection, in other museum collections, or in private collections.
