1871 (Dec.) envelope from Bloemfontein "via Natal" to London, bearing 6d. rose (partly affixed on to reverse) cancelled by bars and in combination with Cape 1d. red (4) and 4d. blue all cancelled "1" with one 1d. tied by cape Town c.d.s. (8.1), the reverse with two London c.d.s. (23.2); a most unusual item directed via Natal in an attempt to save the 4d. Cape transit charge. See handbook, page 178. Photo
