Birmingham Canal Navigation, early transfer certificate for 1 share, 17[82], no.423, beige, folds with small tears, printed on handmade paper, two small red wax seals. The Birmingham Canal was completed in 1772 under famous engineer James Brindley. The Birmingham and Fazeley Canal was built in 1784. The two companies merged shortly afterwards. The network gradually expanded and by the 1850's incorporated many other canals including the Dudley Canal, the Wyrley & Essington Canal and the Wednesbury Canal. Quoted on the London Stock Exchange. Now a registered chaity formed in 1968. Very fine and rare.
