The Palästinaamt, a part of the Jewish Agency for Palestine and in charge of the organisation of the Aliyah, the immigration of Jews from the diaspora to the Land of Israel, encouraged in 1919 the founding of the "Maawirim Jüdisch-Palästinensische Reise- und Transportgesellschaft mbH" in Vienna. The transport of the first 90 immigrants through the city of Triest started on 19. August 1919. The company soon founded several subsidiaries in different countries and ports.
