The Kronprinz Rudolf-Bahn was founded in 1866. Its lines went through Nieder- and Oberösterreich, Kärnten, Steiermark und Krain and in parts of today's Italy and Slovenia. In 1875, the company received the concession for a railway line through Salzkammergut with the connection to the Bavarian railway in Passau. In 1889, the railway was nationalised. These loans were taken over by the State. In the 1920s, however, they became worthless.
