Oliver Ames, Jr. (1807-1877) was president of the Union Pacific Railroad when the railroad joined the Central Pacific Railroad in Utah for the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad. He is also considered the instigator of the Credit Mobilier scandal. His son, Oliver Ames II (1831-1895), continued his father's career as railroad financier and was the 35th Governor of Massachusetts.
