1881 (5 Jan.) opened-out envelope from the British Legation in Peking to Blandford, Dorset bearing, on the reverse, 5ca. yellow [12-13] and [11] tied by Peking seal in blue and other transit marks of Customs Shanghai (29.1), Hong Kong (31.1) and Sturminster Newton (7.3); the address side with Hong Kong 1880 10c. on 12c. blue tied by "S1" obliterator with British Post Office Shanghai (27.1) c.d.s. alongside; one of the 5ca. just overlaps the edge of the envelope.
An unusual rate which is probable made up of 3ca. local delivery, 8ca. overseas via Brindisi (paying the premium 11c. rate)and 4ca. winter overland rate. An attractive and appealing cover
