Auction: 160 - The Henry "Hap" Pattiz Collection of Nepal
Lot: 2115
Hellrigl #13b, c, 1889-98 4a Yellow green, later printings on native paper of good quality, imperforate, complete reconstructed sheet, of 64, setting 4, this sheet was cut into blocks eight blocks of eight (apparently for easier shipment, a practice that is noted on a number of very scarce early sheets), sheet margins are especially large (slight toning at edges) showing no sheet frameline at top but small portions at both sides and bottom of the widely spaced framelines, characteristic of this setting is the joining of the last two words in the inscription which only appears in this setting, position 54 is is the single inverted cliche, Hellrigl notes that this setting is the first to have this inverted cliche and are extremely rare when identified to this setting, the sheet also contains the constant and progressive plate flaws that are found in the 4a value,, color is fresh and rich with a fairly clear impression, very fine; Hellrigl notes that there are only two complete sheets recorded, one of the sheets been reconstructed which he photos on page 163, apparently unaware that the other was reconstructed in the same way, this being the larger and more desirable of the two as it better shows the marginal markings and their position; a lovely exhibition piece (Scott #9; a; $3,710.00+; S.G. #12, a; £3,214+).
