Iran (Persia) 1870-78 Lion issue specialized collection of several hundred stamps in mounts annotated on quadrilled pages in an album, includes essays, mint and used issued stamps, including platings, official reprints, postal stationery cut squares and numerous forgeries, among the essays is a green on white 1865 Riester essay signed Holcombe and two 1865 large format perforated Riester essays, one in brown and one gold on blue, plus six Barre essays, the 1870 issue comprised of 1s mint (3) and used (2), 2s mint (3) and used, 4s mint (17) and used (3) and 8s mint (5) and used, the 1875 issue is comprised of 1s mint (10) and used (6), 2s mint (4) and used (13), 4s mint and used (11) and 8s mint (6) and used (9), the 1875 issue is comprised of 1s grey black mint (5), a block of four and used (3), 2s grey blue mint (6), 4s mint and used (2), 1k used (14) and a pair and 4k used (8), plus an example printed on both sides and two on laid paper, while the 1878 issue is comprised of 1k carmine rose used (7), 1k red on yellow a rare mint example and used (4), 4k mint (3) and used (7), 5k violet used (6), 5k gold used (8) and three seldom seen used examples of the 5k red bronze, typical margins for these and usual mixed condition, some are signed and most were purchased at auctions in the 1970s to early 1990s; an impressive collection that is well suited for continuation and should be viewed to be fully appreciated.
