Ingwavuma
1895 (25 Aug.) envelope from Melmoth to Ulundi and bearing 1888 ½d. dull mauve and green cancelled by part double-ring datestamp, redirected firstly to Ulundi, then Ubombo and ultimately to Bremersdorp, Swaziland, showing boxed "unknown" in violet on face and, on reverse, a range of transit datestamps including Ubombo (3 and 8.9) and Ingwavuma (4 and 7.9) rubber datestamps in violet, Melmoth, Eshowe, Durban and Bremersdorp (7.11) datestamps interestingly untaxed when entering in to Swaziland. Full of character, the sole example of local mail from Melmoth and the only recorded commercial cover from Ingwavuma prior to Zululand being incorporated into Natal. Photo
