Die Proofs
A specialised group of vignette die proofs tracing the various changes that were required in the run-up to the design being accepted, all in black on glazed card with varying degrees of uncleared surround and comprising fourteen (all 92x60mm.) dated between "Oct. 21, 1875" and "Nov. 19, 1875", two stamp-size inset on card and an engraved die proof of a similar sailing ship on wove paper (41x36mm.). A remarkable group, accompanied by photographs of two similar proofs in the Royal Philatelic Collection, illustrating the fine detail that was undertaken for this issue. Photo
