Brighton Day Mail
1831 (18 August) printed sheet with the accounts for four weeks. This shows that Chaplin, at the London Coaching Inn, booked fares value £72.12.0d. and incurred £56 expenses (of which £26.11.0d was tax). In Brighton Mr. Crunden took £125.14.0d in fares and had £4 in expenses. The combined profit was shared amongst the various innkeepers who horsed the coach on the Brighton road. William Chaplin was probably the most important of the great stage coach proprietors, with four major coaching inns and a stud of over 400 horses. Black printing with manuscript annotations, size 10½" x 16½". A few folding creases, fresh. Unusual. Photo
