William III (1694-1702), proof or pattern Crown, 1696, 27.58g, by J Roettier, gvlielmvs. iii. dei. gra., first laureate and draped bust right, rev. inverted die axis, mag. br. fra. et.hib. rex., four crowned shields cruciform, arms of Orange Nassau in centre, eight strings to Irish harp, edge plain (ESC 92 - R4; L&S 2; S.3470), die cracks across top of obverse, small metal flaws on reverse rim at 9 o'clock and fainter die cracks around legend, the faintest hint of rubbing on the obverse but otherwise about as struck, good extremely fine, light grey tone, extremely rare

The illustrations in the Lingford catalogue for this lot and lot 418, a 1696 third bust proof Crown, are confused.
This coin is refered to as a pattern in ESC. The harp is a variety not seen on the currency coins, somewhere between the first and second type.
